Two veteran advanced financial planning and wealth management firms join, establishing one of the most experienced financial advisor teams in Northern California

September 27, 2011 - Monterey, CA – Principals Gary Alt and Steve Merrell along with Ken Petersen and Cris Cabanillas announce today that they are merging their respective firms, Willow Ridge Capital Advisors and Petersen & Ramistella, Inc., to form Monterey Private Wealth, Inc. (MPW), an advanced financial planning and wealth management firm based in Monterey and Pleasanton, Calif.

“We share the philosophy that successful financial management comes from a disciplined adherence to rigorously tested, academically sound investment principles,” said Peterson. “Our clients are pleased with the merger as it only increases our depth of experience and resources,” he said.

The MPW core team boasts five CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNERS™, three MBAs, an MS and nearly 100 combined years of finance and investment experience.

MPW financial management services include financial, estate, tax and retirement planning; risk management; health and long-term care; property and casualty plans; and charitable giving. MPW’s approach to investing is based on the principles of financial science developed by Nobel Prize laureates Harry Markowitz and William Sharpe who developed quantitative methods for building sound portfolios.

“What we do is not speculation or market timing,” said Alt. “It is through disciplined investing and by only taking risks when necessary that we achieve success for our clients,” he said.

Unlike most “retail” or “big box” banks, MPW is fee-based solely on assets under management. This means the only one who pays the team is the client. They never accept kickbacks or commissions, eliminating conflicts of interest inherent in most brokered financial transactions.

MPW advisors are fiduciaries for clients, legally requiring them to put client needs first when making financial recommendations. They disclose all details, including fees and expenses associated with investments. The company is registered with the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission.
